As the Iraq conflict continues, Iran continues to do whatever it takes to achieve its objectives in the region. The increasing numbers of Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and their military activities in Iraq reveal the horrendous scale of the Iranian regime’s meddling. The recent death of IRGC commander, Hamid Taqavi, in the Iraqi city of Samarra as well as the presence of the terrorist Quds force commander Qasem Soleimani among others, are distressing signs of Tehran’s interference.

Assassination of 4 Sunni clerics in Basra by militias affiliated with Iran
On Friday 2 January 2015, the criminal militias affiliated with Iran assassinated four Sunni clerics in Basra Province as part of a policy of ethnic cleansing aimed at annihilating Sunnis in eastern, central and southern Iraq.
Blacklisting Iran’s IRGC does not mean another US-led war
Following the dreadful Obama tenure that allowed Iran to tear the Middle East apart and engulf it in flames, Tehran is now faced with a new administration in the White House that has markedly different intentions. The fact that the Trump administration is floating a proposal to blacklist the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization is a clear indication that Trump means business.

On 12thMay, President Trump will decide whether or not to tear up the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. He has described it as ‘insane’ and ‘the worst deal in history’. President Macron and Chancellor Merkel both flew to Washington last month to try to persuade the US president to stick to the deal. Theresa May and the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security – Federica Mogherini - have now added their voices to the strong chorus calling for Trump to keep the deal.
