Humanitarian Aid
Struan has undertaken extensive humanitarian aid work in the Semipalatinsk area of Kazakhstan for which he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Science by the State Medical Academy of Kazakhstan (2001) and made an Honorary Citizen of Semipalatinsk City (2003).
In 2007 he was awarded an Honorary Professorship at the Sakharim Universtiy of Semey and was invested into the order of 'Shapagat' (Charity) by the President of Kazakhstan.
In 2009, Struan returned to Kazakhstan for his tenth visit. While there, Struan visited Znamenka one of the villages worst affected by radiation, to unveil a plaque re-naming the village main street as 'Struan Stevenson Street'.
Struan has raised over $115,000 to support the people of Kazakhstan.
