The implications of land practices for peat bogs

Is the European Commission aware of the potential damage that could be sustained by plant microbial communities on peatland as a result of the construction of wind farms in response to the renewable energy targets set by the Commission? Peatlands have already been altered by burning, draining, forestry and grazing, disrupting the natural dynamics of the peat bogs. As we are unaware of the implications of such land practices for peat bogs, can full Environmental Impact Assessments and scientific studies using historical records, palaeoenvironmental data and aerial photography on land proposed for wind farms be considered before a proposal is accepted?
