Community guidelines on environmental criteria for wind farm construction
In view of the disastrous peatslide at Derrybrien and other, recent, similar problems in Ireland associated with inappropriately sited wind farms, and taking into account the importance of peatland as a carbon store and the potential for significant release of carbon in such circumstances, will the Commission now issue clear guidelines to member states, covering key criteria to protect the invaluable ecosystem benefits provided by peatlands in Europe, ensuring that they are not devalued or destroyed by ill-advised renewable energy projects?
