THREE CONFESSIONS THAT POINT TO THE END OF THE THEOCRATIC DICTATORSHIP

On Thursday evening, 1st February, many cities in Iran once again witnessed anti-government protests. According to various reports, there were clashes between young people and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in at least 14 cities. It was the second wave of the nationwide protests that have shaken Iran since 28 December 2017.

The New Year is traditionally a time for reflecting upon our deeds and experiences over the past year, with an eye toward self-improvement. In setting New Year’s resolutions, people generally compare their ideal self-image to the actual behaviour they have been exhibiting and they try to bring those things more closely into line.

ROUHANI NOT WELCOME

Sisters and Brothers,

There are rumours that Hassan Rouhani may be planning another visit to Europe. Rouhani is not welcome here in the West. We do not roll out the red carpet for criminals and murderers. Rouhani is not the ‘moderate’ the West believes him to be. He was Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian regime’s armed forces at the time of the 1988 massacre of 30,000 political prisoners and he undoubtedly was complicit in that atrocity.

Mr Chairman, Ladies & Gentlemen,

Firstly let me thank you very much for inviting me here today to speak at this important conference to mark International Human Rights Day. I am very grateful to Gerard and the Friends of a Free Iran Intergroup for holding this event and for the important work that they do in the European Parliament.
