From 25 October to 5 November, as Vice President of the European Parliament's Fisheries Committee, Struan travelled to Laos and Vietnam, at the invitation of these governments, to examine their prospects for aquaculture.
MEPs from all political groups in the European Parliament have urged the leadership of the EU and the member states to force the Iraqi government to release the 7 hostages, including 6 women, who were abducted by Iraqi government forces on 1 September during the massacre in camp Ashraf. On that day 52 defenceless members of the Iranian opposition PMOI-MEK were executed by Iraqi special forces.
The European Parliament's Friends of a Free Iran Intergroup, of which Struan is Chair, has released a report on the 1 September massacre at Camp Ashraf in Iraq and call for international action.

A Euro MP has asked the European Commission to think again about their ban on incandescent light-bulbs. Scottish Conservative MEP Struan Stevenson issued the call after holding high-level talks in Strasbourg with Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger to highlight health problems associated with the widespread introduction of low-energy light bulbs.
Speaking from the European Parliament's monthly voting session in Strasbourg, Scottish Conservative Euro MP Struan Stevenson has warned that the SNP Government's energy policy risks becoming a laughingstock across Europe.
