Struan Stevenson speaks to Al-Masreq TV
The head of Iraq's dossier in the European Parliament, Struan Stevenson warned against the ban on a number of Iraqi political personalities' participation in the elections.
This European official related the elimination of these groups to Iran's meddling in the political process of Iraq and said that Iran does not want parties that are not affiliated with it.
He stressed that Iran foreign minster Manuchehr Motaki's visit to Iraq to deal with the Fakeh Oil field issue was not a sudden decision and without a purpose, rather the occupation of this oil field gave Iran good cards to play against Iraq. He said that Motaki has asked the Iraqi government to bar 500 Iraq political groups from the elections. He also criticized Europe's policy towards Iran stressing that Iran was an enemy to the political process in Iraq, and that it supported Iraq's militia in addition to trying to acquire nuclear weapons.
Stevenson said that he was in charge of establishing good relations between the European Union and Iraq to guarantee a democratic future for the people of Iraq.
