Struan Stevenson speaks to Al-Hurrah

The head of the Iraqi Relations Committee in the European Parliament, Struan Stevenson announced his satisfaction that the Iraqi judiciary was able to solve the problem regarding the barring of some candidates in the elections. In an interview with al-Hurrah, he requested that free elections be held in Iraq which would achieve the interests of all the people and not just a spectrum or a certain race.

Struan Stevenson said that the Clarity Commission has approved the participation of all those excluded in the elections including prominent politicians like Saleh Motlaq and that they thought that this verdict has dominated over the crisis that was taking over the country.

He also thanked the Iraqi judiciary for being able to end the crisis and stressed that this was satisfying and assuring for free open election in Iraq. In the end he said that he hoped that after the elections a secular government and not a tribal government would be formed in Iraq which of would make an effort to achieve the interests all Iraqis and not just the interests of a certain tribe. He stressed that all the efforts of the European Parliament are for this end.
