Lisbon Treaty like an EU ‘ram raid’ on Britain
Euro MP Struan Stevenson has branded the EU treaty a ‘European ram-raid’ which will strip Britain of almost all its remaining sovereign powers.
Speaking to North Ayrshire Conservatives at their AGM in Ardrossan today, Mr Stevenson said:
“No wonder Gordon Brown was being sleekit. By signing the Lisbon Treaty he was betraying Britain. He promised the people of Britain a say on the Constitution in Labour’s manifesto. Now he is determined to deny us that say. He is trying to use Labour’s huge majority to railroad the Treaty through Westminster. And he knows full well that if Westminster approves the Treaty the UK will lose sovereignty in over 60 new areas. And that won't be the end of it.
“The Lisbon Treaty contains a number of passerelle or ratchet clauses that mean all of our remaining vetoes can be taken without the need for any further Treaties and with little scrutiny in parliament. This is the equivalent of a European ram-raid!
“Having effectively surrendered almost all its remaining sovereign powers, Gordon Brown should hang a sign on the White Cliffs of Dover stating “Nothing Worth Stealing”, after Britain has been ram-raided by Brussels.”
