Have Your Say in Europe

The elections to the European Parliament take place on 4th June next year and it is of key importance to Scotland’s future that as many people participate in this election as possible. To ensure you can have your say, your name must be on the electoral register for the area in which you live.

I would encourage everyone of age 18 and over, if they haven’t already done so, to contact their local electoral registration office and ask for a voter’s form to complete, or if you wish, write to me at the address below and I will send you a registration form. You can also register on-line at http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk

I would particularly like to encourage residents of other EU Member States currently working in Scotland to register for this important election. Foreign residents from the EU are entitled to vote in all local and European elections. For example, many members of the large Polish community in Scotland used their votes in last autumn’s Polish general election, helping Donald Tusk to become Prime Minister and the centre right Civic Platform Party to score a landslide victory. Their participation in the European election could have a similar dramatic impact here.
