Census Mistake
Dear Sir,
The Crown Office’s decision to clear CACI International to carry out the 2011 Scottish Census, despite allegations of involvement in a torture and prisoner abuse scandal in Iraq in 2004, is extremely disappointing.
CACI International’s website boasts 'The threats to America’s borders and homeland are always present. CACI works at the technological heart of efforts to counter these dangers'. Is an American counter-intelligence agency really a suitable organisation to be responsible for processing confidential information about every man, woman and child living in Scotland?
I would also question why, at a time of economic meltdown, the Scottish Government has awarded an American company with the responsibility for conducting the Scottish Census. It is baffling and highly inappropriate. At the very least, the contract should have been awarded to a British company and certainly not to a company that is shrouded in controversy.
Yours faithfully,
Struan Stevenson MEP
