Baghdad role for Scottish Euro MP
Struan Stevenson, Scottish Conservative MEP, has been appointed to chair the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with Iraq. Mr. Stevenson has been widely involved in Middle Eastern affairs, in particular concerning the situation in Iraq and neighbouring Iran. He was re-elected in June for his third term as an MEP.
Mr. Stevenson has already been invited to Jordan to meet key Ministers and is organising the first visit of his delegation to Baghdad.
Commenting on his new appointment, Mr. Stevenson said:
"This is an exciting and challenging new position. Parliamentary delegations help to shape policy for dealing with countries outside the EU and the volatile situation in Iraq and the Middle East requires sensitive handling.”
